Thank you for agreeing to interview with me for The I/O Tower Podcast! We'll be using Zoom for our meeting. Download it here:
To ensure the highest quality audio recording possible, read and follow the guidelines below. If you have any questions or need technical assistance prior to our meeting, just let me know and we'll get your audio set up as best we can!
Ensure your room is quiet. Turn off, unplug or disable heaters, air conditioners, refrigerators, dehumidifiers, and any appliances that can turn on unexpectedly and cause background noise.
Use WIRED headphones or earbuds only. Do NOT use wireless or Bluetooth headphones such as AirPods, as these will introduce a host of issues negatively affecting recording quality.
Do NOT use speakers for listening to participants. Speakers will feed back into your microphone and/or introduce noise cancellation effects that negatively affect full duplex recording quality. Use wired headphones or earbuds only.
If you have a wired, stand-alone quality microphone, use that. If you do not have one, then use your computer's built-in microphone or your wired earbuds microphone, whichever one you determine is better. Do NOT use wireless or Bluetooth microphones such as AirPods, as these cause audio delays and lower sound quality.
In summary, by using WIRED headphones/earbuds and a WIRED or built-in microphone, we can ensure a higher quality, full duplex audio recording of our meeting!
Be sure to update your Zoom app to the newest version prior to our meeting! I strongly encourage using the Zoom app on your laptop or computer. Using your smartphone for Zoom is not recommended for our use case.
By default, Zoom attempts to "improve" the audio experience in ways that negatively affect audio quality and conversational flow in an interviewing context. The good news is that Zoom allows us to change its audio settings so that we can achieve a high quality, full duplex audio recording. Go to your Zoom app's "Settings" and make these adjustments under "Audio":
When actually joined in on the Zoom meeting, turn on "Original sound for musicians" in upper right corner.
These settings should ensure a high quality, full duplex & naturally conversant recording of our meeting. We can adjust them in real-time during our meeting as well.
Thank you again, and just let me know if you have any questions or need help getting your equipment set up properly prior to our meeting.
